Buy with Prime on your own website: how it works

Short answer: Buy with Prime lets Prime members check out on your own website with Prime's free, fast delivery, with Amazon fulfilling the order from inventory you keep in its network and handling shopper service and returns. Since September 2026 there's also a lighter option: Multichannel Fulfillment merchants in the US can add Prime delivery as a shipping choice while keeping their own checkout and returns. Both only make sense if your stock already sits in Amazon's fulfillment network, or you're willing to put it there.

If you sell on Amazon with FBA and also run your own store, you've probably wondered why Prime shoppers trust your Amazon listing more than your website. These options try to close that gap.

How it works

Two flavors of Prime on your site

Amazon's September 24, 2026 announcement lays out the current line-up:

Prime delivery through Multichannel Fulfillment (MCF). New and existing MCF merchants selling in the US can add fast, free Prime delivery as a shipping option on their websites, which Amazon says comes at no additional cost beyond standard MCF fees. A Prime badge shows on product pages, the shopper picks Prime delivery at checkout, Amazon verifies their membership after the order is placed and ships from your inventory in its network. Order confirmation and tracking come from you, and you keep your existing payment processing, order management, returns and customer service.

Buy with Prime. The fuller version. Amazon describes it as combining Prime delivery with Amazon handling more of the post-purchase experience, including shopper customer service and returns, with a Prime-branded experience.

The fulfillment requirement

Both run on Amazon's fulfillment network. MCF uses the same pool of inventory as Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA): Amazon picks, packs and ships orders from your website, marketplaces and social channels. Amazon's Shopify integration page says orders are shipped in unbranded packaging at no additional cost.

If you don't use FBA or MCF today, adopting either option means moving inventory into Amazon's network first. That's a logistics decision, not a website plugin.

Costs

Amazon publishes Buy with Prime pricing in its knowledge center and MCF fees on its supply chain site, and fulfillment fees vary by product, so read them with your own products in hand. As of November 2026, the Amazon-built Shopify app is listed as free to install, with pay-as-you-go fulfillment fees billed in USD, and Amazon's announcement describes an MCF Preferred Pricing Program for FBA sellers. Check Amazon's current pricing pages and its calculator against your own order sizes before deciding.

Fit test

Answer yes or no:

  1. Do you already use FBA or MCF? If yes, the hardest part is done.
  2. Do many of your website visitors have Prime? If your audience is US consumers buying everyday products, likely. If you sell to businesses or abroad, less so. (Amazon notes Prime delivery on merchant sites is US only.)
  3. Is slow or paid shipping costing you sales today? Prime delivery mainly helps there.
  4. Do your products ship well in standard packaging? Unbranded boxes from a fulfillment center suit some brands and disappoint others that rely on the unboxing.
  5. Are you comfortable with Amazon handling service and returns? If not, the MCF Prime delivery option (keeping your own returns) fits better than full Buy with Prime.
  6. Do you have time to watch inventory sync? Two systems counting the same stock need monitoring, especially in peak season.

Mostly yes: worth testing. Mostly no, especially on questions 1 and 4: your current shipping setup is probably fine, and the money is better spent on faster dispatch from your own warehouse or 3PL.

Setup steps on Shopify

Amazon's own integration is the "Amazon MCF and Buy with Prime" app in the Shopify App Store, built by Amazon. According to Amazon's integration page, setup has three steps:

  1. Connect your Amazon account (Seller Central).
  2. Map your Shopify catalog to your Amazon catalog, SKU by SKU. Clean up any mismatched SKUs before you start.
  3. Set your shipping preferences: which products and destinations use Amazon fulfillment, which shipping options and rates appear at checkout, and whether Prime delivery or Buy with Prime is offered (US only).

After that, the app sends eligible orders to Amazon, shows tracking on your Shopify orders page and syncs Amazon inventory levels into Shopify.

Before you go live

  • Test real orders to a few US addresses, with and without a Prime account.
  • Check shipping profiles across your whole catalog. Several recent reviews on the app's Shopify listing describe Prime shipping options appearing on products that weren't meant to have them, and inventory showing incorrectly. Look at a sample of non-Amazon products at checkout after setup.
  • Decide what happens when Amazon stock runs out. Either the product goes out of stock on your site, or orders route to your own warehouse. Make sure the app's setting matches your plan.
  • Update your shipping page so customers understand which orders get Prime delivery and which don't.
  • Brief customer service on who handles what. With the MCF Prime option you still own returns and support; with Buy with Prime, Amazon handles more of it.

Other platforms and custom sites can connect through Amazon's Selling Partner API and partner integrations; ask your developer or platform which route is supported.

FAQ

Do I need to sell on Amazon to use Buy with Prime?

You need your inventory in Amazon's fulfillment network, which in practice usually means an Amazon seller account using FBA or MCF. Check Amazon's current eligibility requirements for your situation.

Will the Prime badge show to everyone?

The Prime option is for US shoppers, and Amazon verifies Prime membership after the order is placed when using the MCF Prime delivery option.

Does Amazon get my customer data?

Amazon needs order and delivery details to fulfill and, with Buy with Prime, to handle service and returns. Read Amazon's current terms for how that data is used before enabling it.

Can I offer it on just some products?

Only products you map to your Amazon inventory can be fulfilled through it, so in practice you choose the range by choosing which SKUs to map and stock with Amazon.

If you're weighing Prime delivery against tightening your own fulfillment, we can look at your order data and shipping setup with you.
