Linear

Try Linear on its demo workspace before moving a project in

Linear is a product-development tracker for teams and agents. Explore its demo first, then run one small project through it before committing real work.

Based on the tool's official documentation.

Written from the tool's official pages, listed under Official sources at the end of this guide. Check them for current features, limits and terms.

Try it (opens in a new tab)

Steps to try

  1. Open the demo workspace linked from the official Start Guide to see how issues, projects and workflows fit together before you create an account.
  2. Decide the one project you would track. Write down its outcome and five to ten concrete tasks on paper first.
  3. Create a workspace with your work email, then add those tasks as issues. Keep titles specific enough that someone else could pick them up.
  4. Read the docs sections on Projects and Issues and cycles, then group the issues into one project and try a cycle if your team works in time-boxes.
  5. If you want to try the agents and automation features, read that docs section first and start with a throwaway project, not live work.
  6. After a week, compare it with your current tracker: did anything get lost, duplicated or ignored? Decide to keep, widen or drop it.

Limitations

The Start Guide mainly points to demos, onboarding videos and further docs, so this guide cannot describe exact menus or settings. Linear is built around software teams; a solo non-technical task list may be better served by something simpler. Agent features need human review before anything ships.

Pricing

Check Linear's official pricing page for current plans and limits; we do not quote figures here. Confirm what is included before inviting a team.

Privacy and data

A workspace holds your project names, task text and team members. Use the work email your organisation expects, check who can see the workspace, and keep client secrets, credentials and personal data out of issue text. If you connect integrations or agents, read what each can access first.

About the sources

Based on Linear's Start Guide, not hands-on testing. That page mostly points to demos and further docs, so menu details may differ.

Alternatives

A plain shared document or spreadsheet is enough for very small projects. Other issue trackers exist; run the same ten tasks through two of them and keep the one your team actually updates.
