Wispr Flow
Dictate a first draft with Wispr Flow, then edit it by eye
A voice-dictation tool for getting rough text into any app quickly. Useful when typing is the bottleneck and the thinking is already done.
Written from the tool's official pages, listed under Official sources at the end of this guide. Check them for current features, limits and terms.
Try it (opens in a new tab)Steps to try
- Install the app from the official website and follow its permission prompts for microphone and text input. Read what each permission allows before accepting.
- Decide what you will say before you start: jot three bullet points for the email, note or section.
- Click into the app where the text should go, start dictation using the shortcut the app shows you, and speak in full sentences.
- Say punctuation or formatting only if the app supports it; otherwise add it afterwards.
- Read the result aloud or on screen once. Fix names, numbers, dates and technical terms by hand.
- Keep dictation for first drafts and short messages. Send nothing important unreviewed.
Limitations
Accuracy can vary with accent, background noise, microphone and specialist vocabulary. Numbers, names and figures need manual checking. The official page lists Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android and says it works in over 100 languages; confirm your own device and language there before relying on it.
Pricing
The official site describes a free plan with a usage limit and paid plans for more. Limits and plans change, so check the official website for current terms rather than relying on this guide.
Privacy and data
Dictation means your speech, and possibly surrounding text, is processed by a service. The provider publishes privacy, security and data-control pages. Read them, and your organisation's rules, before using it for client, patient, financial or employer material.
About the sources
Based on the official page, which lists the tool's name, platforms and core dictation function. Speed and productivity figures on the vendor's site are the vendor's own marketing claims.
Alternatives
Built-in dictation in your operating system is free and worth trying first. Other dedicated dictation apps exist; compare them on the same short passage before choosing.
