Make
Build a Google Sheets to Slack alert as your first Make scenario
Make's help centre walks through a scenario that watches a Google Sheet for new prospect rows and notifies a team in Slack. A small first build that shows how modules pass data.

Try it (opens in a new tab)Steps to try
- Write the rule in one sentence first: when a new row is added to this sheet, post this message to that channel.
- Create a Make account and use a test Google Sheet and a test Slack channel, not live prospect lists or team channels.
- Follow the guide's Step 1 planning page, then add the Google Sheets module as the trigger and the Slack module as the action.
- Map sheet columns into the message text, run the scenario once, and add a dummy row to check the notification arrives as expected.
- Review what the message exposes. Remove columns such as emails or phone numbers if the channel does not need them.
- Switch the scenario on only after the test passes, and switch it off when finished experimenting.
Limitations
The page shown covers only the introduction; the build itself is on following pages, which were not reviewed. It states per-team daily scenario and scenario size limits. Credits and operations also apply, so check the key concepts pages before scheduling frequent runs. It is a notification example, not error handling.
Pricing
The guide says the accounts it needs are free to create. What a free Make plan includes, and what usage costs, is not covered there, so check Make's current plan and credits pages.
Privacy and data
Connecting Google and Slack gives Make access to those accounts. Use a test sheet with invented prospects, grant only the access asked for, and avoid sending personal data to channels with wide membership.
About the sources
Based on the introduction page of Make's help centre, not hands-on testing. The build pages that follow were not reviewed.
Alternatives
n8n is a comparable builder with a self-hosting option. Zapier suits simple two-step links. Google Sheets and Slack also have built-in notification features that may be enough on their own.
